Enviro Save Water System
Enviro Water Saver β our honest take ββββ (with one caveat)
Here's a problem every caravanner knows but most people never think about: every time you crack the hot tap, you tip out a slug of cold water that's been sitting in the lines before the hot actually arrives. At home it's annoying. On the road β when you're free-camping and the fresh tank is all you've got β it's genuinely costing you days of water over a trip.
The Enviro Water Saver is a neat fix. It's a thermal device plumbed into the hot line: when you turn on a hot tap, that first cooled water gets diverted back into your cold/fresh supply instead of running to waste. The moment the water reaches temperature, it automatically switches over and sends hot straight to the tap β so nothing's dumped and you're not standing there watching litres disappear.
What we love:
It saves the exact water we used to waste β the cold slug before the hot arrives.
No power, no running cost. It's a one-time install that just works in the background.
Genuinely clever and proven β it won both judges' and people's choice on ABC's New Inventors, and Enviro reckons it can save an average home around 10% of its water.
Aussie-made, which we always like to support.
The honest caveat (read this first):
It's designed and marketed for houses, not caravans. Enviro's site is all about permanent home installs β there's no specific RV version. So before you buy, confirm it'll suit your van's plumbing layout, pump pressure and continuous-flow gas heater. For a house it's a no-brainer; for a rig, do your homework (or check with your installer) so you know it'll play nicely with your setup.
Pricing isn't listed online (we paid around the $220 mark) β worth confirming the current price and the right configuration directly with Enviro.
Verdict: A smart, set-and-forget bit of kit that targets a very real source of water waste. For the house it's an easy yes; for the van it's a brilliant idea if it's compatible with your plumbing β so check that first, then enjoy never pouring the fresh tank down the drain again. π§
